Supervisory board member of the week: Annette Messemer (Société Générale)

Annette Messemer

New task for Annette Messemer: The former divisional director of Commerzbank has moved to the board of directors of the financial institution Société Générale. This is already her fourth mandate on a French supervisory body: the Ludwigshafen-based woman also serves on the board of directors of the optician chain EssilorLuxottica, the food manufacturer Savencia and the minerals group Imerys. This makes Annette Messemer probably the most influential German manager in France.

JP Morgan, WestLB, K+S

In Germany, the Palatinate native sat on the Supervisory Board of the raw materials and fertilizers group K+S from 2013 to 2018. In addition, following the financial crisis, she joined the supervisory body of the ailing WestLB on behalf of the federal government in order to oversee the winding-up. Before joining Commerzbank, Messemer worked for the US banks JP Morgan and Merrill Lynch. She studied political science in Bonn and Paris and then completed a master’s degree in “International Economics” in the USA.
