Supervisory Board of the week: Hermann Gröhe (Ecclesia)

Hermann Gröhe

The former Federal Minister of Health Hermann Gröhe (CDU) becomes a member of the supervisory board of the insurance broker Ecclesia based in Detmold. As the industry magazine AssCompact reported this week, Gröhe is moving into the committee at the beginning of April – then the one-year waiting period, which former ministers have to comply with, has expired. The Federal Government had already decided in February that there were “no objections” to the sideline, according to further reports. Gröhe would retain his Bundestag mandate and remain deputy faction leader.

The Ecclesia Group employs around 1650 people and most recently generated an annual turnover of 210 million euros. Shareholders of the company are the German Caritas Association, the Evangelical Church in Germany and the Evangelical Work for Diakonia and Development. They had decided last year to set up a Supervisory Board. Matthias Berger, auditor and tax consultant at the law firm Dr. Weh und Kollegen in Waldshut-Tiengen, has assumed the chairmanship. The other members come “from industry as well as the health and social economy”, as the company announced.
